eRSS: Make money from your RSS feeds !
Published by Reactivpub, 28/08/2009

Are you broadcasting RSS feeds on your blog or website without earning income from them?

With eRSS technology, you can monetize your RSS feeds and the feed-based tools you offer (such as widgets) thanks to targeted advertising which is inserted into the feeds without compromising their content; eRSS selects those advertisements which are the most relevant and most remunerative for you and automatically integrates them into your feeds, all without any intervention on your part.

eRSS: How it works ?

  • From your administrative interface, create an eRSS (or see your affiliate manager). Select the campaigns of interest to you.
  • Route your feeds of choice via your eRSS. R-Optimizer, the eRSS technology’s integrated optimization engine, will analyze your RSS feed content in real time and automatically select products tailored to the articles in the feeds.
  • Broadcast your RSS feeds as usual. Your web visitors will be made sensitized of products and services through advertising campaigns which are consistent with their own needs and interests yet always faithful to your targets and themes.

eRSS: Total control

eRSS gives you complete control over your broadcasts by allowing you to manage both the form and the content of advertising inserts.

For example, if you broadcast a “High Tech” feed, you can insert advertisements for IT, audiovisual and telephony products. The entire range of Reactivpub product catalogs is available to you, putting more than one million products in hundreds of categories at your disposal.

You control the content (advertiser selection) and insertion frequency (one advertisement after every article, after a given number of articles, after the third and seventh articles, etc.).
You can also opt for more conventional insertion in the form of banners and images placed within the main body of feed articles. All Reactivpub campaigns are available to you, whatever the method of remuneration (CPC, CPL, CPV, or mixed).

Reactivpub’s tracking technology lets you get paid for campaigns broadcast via eRSS whatever broadcast system you use (RSS feed, web widget, desktop widget, etc.), even if the visitor has been to your site only once to subscribe to your feeds and payment is made several days after subscription.

How to use eRSS

You can integrate eRSS into your RSS feeds in several ways.

Suppose your visitors are able to subscribe to an RSS feed by clicking on a "News" syndication link on your site. The source code for the link is:

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.my-web-site.com/rss/news.php">
News
</a>

eRSS integration involves directing your RSS feed via a Reactivpub eRSS tag which will analyze the feed in real time, insert advertising into the feed, and return the enhanced feed to you:

  • If you have configured your eRSS in the Reactivpub administrative interface to use your original feed URL, substitute the Reactivpub eRSS tag for the syndication link to your RSS feed:
<a target="_blank" href="http://nodes.reactivpub.fr/scripts/erss.php?params=1234">
News
</a>
  • You can also simply provide your original feed URL as a parameter of the Reactivpub eRSS tag in the syndication link:
<a target="_blank" href="http://nodes.reactivpub.fr/scripts/erss.php?params=1234
&feedurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.my-web-site.com%2Frss%2Fnews.php">
News
</a>

Note that the original feed URL must be correctly encoded (e.g., in PHP, using urlencode()).

Whichever solution you choose, all new subscribers to the “News” feed will receive articles from the original feed enhanced with advertising campaigns fully tailored both to their interests and to the feed content.

eRSS integration is equally easy if your feeds transit an analytical tool or feed aggregator or if they support other broadcast devices, such as web or desktop widgets. All you have to do is replace the original feed URL with the Reactivpub eRSS tag URL.

Additional integration solutions are possible, too. For example, you can integrate eRSS for everyone already subscribed to the “News” feed. In this case, there is no need to change the original feed URL because the eRSS integration takes place at the source, in your script which generates the feed.

Integrating eRSS for both new and existing subscribers offers the undeniable advantage of allowing you to broadcast important information instantly to all subscribers of the feed. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in this type of integration, or if you have any other special requests.
